the other way around. Finally visualisation a
couple of years ago everybody was very happy
with having a simple graphical interface, but
today we are willing to integrate Google maps
into our system and the mapping is much
more sophisticated."
Which features will become
the next big thing?
"Most certainly security in the cloud, or to
be more specific: archiving in the cloud will
become the major topic in 2015. The reason
for that is that more and more cameras record
huge amount of data and we are willing to
analyse more and more of this information.
Many end users are not interested in keeping
storage in the office anymore with all of the
costs that entails. Security in the cloud will
become the big story over the next few years
together with unification and early threat
identification."
What is Genetec's biggest challenge?
"It is to stay several steps ahead of our client's
needs so that we are able to constantly bring
them innovative solutions to problems even
before they identify there is a need. In short,
making sure we can bring the technology

are not complex and there is little ambition
to scale the size or function of the system,
these limited and closed architecture systems
will do."
But complex environments do not
necessarily have to mean many cameras?
"A lot of people believe Genetec only has the
right solution for systems with 100 cameras
or more, but this is certainly not true. We
can start with one camera in the cloud where
you do not need any infrastructure at all, only
the camera with an SD card connected to the
Internet, up to smaller systems with 16, 32,
or 100 cameras, doors and alarms and all the
way up to client service solutions with 100 to
over 150,000 cameras distributed globally."
Which are the biggest trends right now?
"We see that people are increasingly interested
in which threats they are facing. For example,
by identifying a licence plate before a car
enters a car park, we can provide information
earlier to the end user or security specialist.
Another trend is that systems must be more
intuitive. The operator should not have to
adapt his way of working to the system, but
