New Axis cameras for challenging light conditions
Lund, Sweden
Axis Communications introduces six new models to its Axis Q60 PTZ dome network camera series, bringing a new range of performance and efficiency features for demanding video surveillance applications. The cameras, which are engineered to provide effective coverage of wide areas, high detail when zooming in, and outstanding light sensitivity and dynamics, are ideal for city surveillance, airports, train stations, harbours, warehouses and indoor or outdoor arenas and stadiums. The focus recall feature, available in the Axis Q6052/-E and Axis Q6054/-E, provides instant focus in predefined areas, making it easier to use a PTZ camera optimally
in challenging light conditions. With focus recall, there is no need to manually focus or wait for the autofocus to adjust, a step that can take several seconds. Focus recall is especially beneficial in scenes with low contrast and point-shaped light sources, for example, strong headlights from oncoming traffic. It is also useful in scenarios that require a lot of manual operation using a joystick. The new cameras are the first cameras in the Axis Q60 series to offer Zipstream, an H.264 compatible compression technology that reduces bandwidth and storage requirements by up to 50 per cent even during camera movements. Zipstream provides control over bandwidth peaks, allows users to
preserve more forensic detail where needed and lowers installation and maintenance costs significantly. Axis Q6055/-E comes with several built-in Axis video analytic applications for greater efficiency or added business value. Detection of security incidents through automatic monitoring of the video feed makes it possible to prevent crime, and integration of video data into other systems contributes to business insights. In addition, the cameras also have substantial capacity for third-party applications from Axis partners. The new Q60 cameras deliver up to 36x optical zoom and up to 1080p resolution, depending on model. They all include day/night functionality, WDR, and a memory

card slot. The indoor models all offer two-way audio, audio detection, I/O ports, and 24 V AC/DC power and IP52-rated protection against dust and dripping water. The rugged outdoor models are vandal resistant (IK10 rating) and have IP66- and NEMA 4X-rated protection against dust, rain and snow. They also feature arctic temperature control, which ensures safe start-up at temperatures down to -40 °C/°F, even after a power failure.
Flir launches airborne thermal imaging system
Wilsonville, Or (USA)
Flir Systems has released the new Star Safire 380-HLDc highdefinition, compact airborne electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) targeting system. Featuring industry-leading size, weight, power and cost (SWAP-c) specifications, the Star Safire 380-HLDc combines Flir’s latest sensor technology with precision laser designation
to give light combat helicopters and similar platforms true nextgeneration performance. With high-definition, multispectral imaging and precision laser designation integrated into a single compact system, the Star Safire 380-HLDc eliminates the need to choose between system size, weight and targeting performance. Its compact design, ideal
for smaller aircraft with limited ground clearance, provides a good solution for locating, identifying and laser marking targets at maximum range. Leveraging Flir-designed and produced thermal and laser technologies, the Star Safire 380-HLDc delivers significantly longer range Positive ID (PID) than previous systems of this
size and weight, making it an invaluable surveillance and intelligence-gathering force multiplier. Incorporating a long-range laser designator for precision engagements, and advanced laser spot-tracking and decoding, the Star Safire 380-HLDc is the latest innovation driven by Flir’s Commercially Developed, Military Qualified (CDMQ) model.
